Queer Contemporary is a rigorous practice that explores nuanced patterns of movement, including contemporary floor work and axis syllabus. Here queerness involves being unwilling and/or unable to uphold the lineages of status quo and carving out alternatives. We will break down mechanics, leave room for lots of questions, and explore how to make ideas function on our unique bodyminds. We start with a standing warmup, where we practice weight shifts and seek a sense of ease and integrity in our structures. We move to the floor for drills and end with phrase work. This offering leaves space for integrating learning through labbing and open improvisation.
